Talvimaisemia - Winter scenery 2014

Perinteinen oikea talvi on täällä ja olen siitä iloinen! Nyt täytyy nauttia aurinkoisista pakkaspäivistä ennen viikonlopun lämpöasteita ja vesisateita. Joulusyömisen jälkeen oli siis lähdettävä ulkoilemaan. Sormet jäätyivät maisemia kuvatessa, mutta ainakin kameraan tallentui kivoja talvikuvia. Suurin osa kuvista on kuvattu Vuoksen rannasta.

Traditional real winter is here and I am happy about it! Now we have to enjoy these sunny and cold winter days before plus degrees and rain comes on next weekend. So after eating Christmas food I had to go out for a walk. Fingers froze when taking photos, but luckily I have nice winter pictures in my camera. Most of the pictures are taken nearby the River Vuoksi.

Jouluherkkuja - Christmas goodies

Jouluna on syöty ja syöty, ruokaa ja herkkuja, suolaista sekä makeaa. Nyt esittelen minun sekä perheeni tekemiä ruokia, jotka ovat myös melko perinteisiä suomalaisia jouluruokia.

On Christmas we have been eating and eating, real and unhealthy food, salty and sweet. Now I will introduce the Christmas food that I and my family have made. This food is also quite traditional finnish food on Christmas.

Aamun riisipuuro kaneli-sokerilla. Suomalainen riisipuuro ei sisällä sokeria vaan sitä laitetaan päälle! Tätä syödessä muistin Kreikassa käydyt puurokeskustelut :D

Karjalanpaistiin pääsi mukaan porkkanaa, nautaa, possua ja poroa. Maukasta oli vaikka ei niin kaunista!
We put carrot, beef, pork and reindeer to the Karelian roast. It was delicious although not so beautiful!

Pajutallin ja Hiljan Pihan joulu - Christmas of Pajutalli and Hiljan Piha

Koiramäen Pajutalli on sisustuskauppa, joka sijaitsee pihapiirissä asutusalueella Tuusulan ja Vantaan rajalla. Kaupasta löytyy paljon ihania sisustusesineitä, pajukoristeita, tuliaisia ja lahjoja. Myyntituotteet on sijoiteltu muutamaan eri rakennukseen ja päätalosta löytyy myös suloinen kahvila. Koiramäen Pajutallin pihassa on myös oma koti kaneille ja possuille, pieni peikkometsä eläinhahmoineen sekä vanhojen tavaroiden museo. Alla on kuvia tästä ihastuttavasta paikasta!

Koiramäen Pajutalli is a decor shop in the yard and it's located in the border of Tuusula and Vantaa. From the shop you can find a lot of lovely gifts, souvenirs and decoration items, for example made from willow. The products are placed in several buildings and there is also a cute cafe in the main building. In the yard there are also own house for rabbits and pigs, a little troll forest with animal figures and museum of old things. Under you can see photos from this charming place!

Ennen joulua pääsin taas käymään Karjalaisella kotitalolla eli Hiljan Pihalla Imatralla. Se sijaitsee Vuoksen rannalla ja alue on toiminut aikaisemmin museona. Paikka esittelee talonpoikaista elämää 1800 luvun lopulla Etelä-Karjalassa. Joulun aikaan siellä järjestetään myyjäiset ja kesäisin pihassa on ollut myös eläimiä. Näin tänä vuonna myös poron, jonka tapasin myös vuosi sitten samassa paikassa. Söimme joulutortut ja joimme glögit sekä teimme kakku ja koristeostoksiakin :)

Before Christmas I had again a chance to visit the Karelian house called Hilja's Yard in Imatra. It is located next to River Vuoksi and the area has been used as museum before. The place shows the rustic life in the end of 1800 in South-Karelia. In Christmas time they organize rummage sales and on summer there has been also animals. This year I saw a reindeer that I met also one year ago in the same place. We ate mince pies and drank Glögi (mulled wine without or with alcohol). We made also some cake and decoration shopping :)

Jouluun valmistautumista - Preparing for Christmas

Jouluun valmistautuminen alkoi jo marraskuussa ja joulua on laitettu omassa kodissani, töissä lasten kanssa sekä nyt myös vanhempieni kotona. Jouluvalmisteluihin on kuulunut leipomisen, joululaulujen, ostosten ja siivouksen lisäksi esimerkiksi:

Lasten joulukalenterin rakentamista villasukista. Lapset olivat innoissaan löytäessään sukasta jokainen omalla vuorollaan joulurunon, roikkuvan enkelikoristeen sekä pienen rusinapaketin. Oman vuoron odottamista tietysti harjoiteltiin :)

Pipareiden leipomista töissä lasten kanssa. Hyvin sujui 1-2 vuotiaankin kanssa, kun aikuinen teki yhden kanssa kerrallaan!

EVS Seminaari - EVS Seminar

Osallistuimme kuuden kämppikseni kanssa EVS vapaaehtoistyön seminaariin Ateenassa 21-25.7. 2014. Seminaari kesti viisi päivää, paitsi meillä Meteoran matkaajilla, joilta jäi seminaarin ensimmäinen päivä väliin. Kaikille Kreikan EVS vapaaehtoisille järjestettiin tulo- ja väliseminaari, ja itse kuuluin välitapaamisen porukkaan.

Seminaari alkoi minulla hieman kehnosti, sillä nyrjäytin nilkkani palattuamme Meteorasta Ateenaan. Siinä ei muuta tarvittu kuin juttelua kavereiden kanssa samaan aikaan kun kävelee siihen keskittymättä. Pääsin kuitenkin jatkamaan matkaa hotellille asti. Tajusin heti seuraavana aamuna, että olisi oikeasti pitänyt pyytää jäitä hotellilta, sillä jalkaa koski melkoisen paljon! Myös toinen seminaaripäivä meni minulta osittain ohi, sillä jouduin lähtemään aamupäiväksi sairaalaan tai oikeastaan kolmeen sairaalaan yhdessä kämppikseni kanssa. Vaikka parin sairaalan palvelu olikin melko tylyä ja sekavaa, oli niissä kiertely kuitenkin avartavaa.

We participated in EVS voluntary work seminar with six of my flatmates in Athens during 21-25.7.2014. The seminar took five days except for us Meteora travellers, who had to skip first day of the seminar. Arrival and midterm seminars were organized for all EVS volunteers in Greece and I belonged to midterm group.

The seminar started quite poorly for me because my ankle sprained when we got back from Meteora to Athens. That accident didn't need more than talking with friends while walking without paying attention to that. I could still continue walking to our hotel. Next morning I realized that for real I should have asked ice from the hotel, the foot hurt quite a lot! Also the morning of my second seminar day passed by because I had to go to a hospital, actually to three hospitals with my flatmate. Although the service of couple hospitals was quite rude and confusing, it had still a mind broadening effect on me to go around several hospitals.

Seminaarissa meillä oli erilaisia tehtäviä, kuten luentoja, luovia tehtäviä sekä ryhmä- ja yksilötyöskentelyä. Yksi hauskimmistä tehtävistä oli EVS projektin mainostaminen ja vapaaehtoistyöstä kertominen ihmisille Ateenan kaduilla ja oman työmme dokumentointi. Teimme oman ryhmäni kanssa EVS julisteet, joissa kerroimme siitä, minkälainen kokemus vapaaehtoistyöprojekti on meille ollut. Kävelimme kaduilla julisteet paidoissamme ja kiinnitimme lappuja pylväisiin, seiniin, bussipysäkeille ja metron sisäänkäyntiin eli paikkoihin, joista niitä todennäköisesti luettaisiin. Vaikka meidän ryhmämme työ ei ollutkaan mikään suuri show, saimme silti ihmisten mielenkiinnon heräämään. Oli kiva huomata, kuinka ihmiset pysähtyivät lukemaan julisteita. Jotkut toiset ryhmät esittivät esimerkiksi EVS räppiä sekä muita huutoja monumenttien päällä torvia käyttäen :D 

We had different kind of exercises in the seminar like lectures, creative tasks and also group and individual work. One of the most pleasant tasks was advertising EVS project and voluntary work for people on Athens' streets. Our task was also to document our work there. With my group we made EVS posters where we told how the voluntary work experience has been for us. We walked on the streets dressed up with our posters on the shirts. We hanged them to poles, walls, bus stops and metro entrance, to those places where people would probably read them. Although our group's work was not any big show, we still managed to make people interested in the posters. It was nice to see when they stopped to read the posters. Some other groups presented for example EVS rap and other shouts by using paper trumpets on top of the monuments :D

Seminaarissa pääsimme tutustumaan muihin Kreikassa oleviin vapaaehtoisiin ja heidän projekteihinsa, joita oli monenlaisia. Mieleenpainuvin projekti oli ehkä merikilpikonnien suojelu Zakynthoksella, jossa kävin itsekin. Iltaisin keksimme yhdessä meille ohjelmaa Ateenassa. Kävimme esimerkiksi ihailemassa Ateenaa iltavalaistuksessa Akropoliksen kivillä, kuuntelemassa konserttia ulkona sekä juhlimassa seminaarin päättäjäisjuhlia Gazin kaupunginosassa Why sleep baarissa. Niinpä, miksi nukkua kun voi juhlia ja tanssia läpi yön? Voihan ne yöunet siirtää seuraavaankin päivään! Myös kipeä jalkani salli tanssimisen, vaikka se olikin kipeä vielä useamman viikon onnettomuuden jälkeen.

In seminar we got to meet other volunteers from Greece and learn about their various projects. The most memorable project was maybe protecting sea turtles in Zakynthos that I visited also. We figured out together what to do on every evening in Athens. We enjoyed for example nightly Athens on the rocks of Acropolis. We went to listen a concert outside and we had the farewell party of our seminar in Gazi in Why sleep bar. So, why to sleep when you can party and dance all night long? You can move night's sleep easily for the next day! Also my painful foot allowed dancing, however it had still pain several weeks after injury.
